ACM Multimedia 2010 Interactive Art Program

Please read these instructions carefully. Incomplete submissions will be rejected without review. All of the following MUST be submitted on-line ONLY (see note on supporting materials). Submissions submitted via e-mail will not be accepted or reviewed. Submission information will be posted by March 1.

Each submission to the art exhibition should include the following THREE components:

1. Complete Project Information Sheet

Please download the Project Information Sheet (Word doc) and fill in ALL information requested. The document must be converted to PDF before submitting. DO NOT include a CV or other documents unless specifically requested.

2. Short Paper

This two to four page paper will be published in the proceedings of the conference for selected work. The statement should have an abstract, discuss related work, artistic motivation, and technical details. Please see the paper guide for information on writing a successful extended abstract.

Both complete Project Information Sheet and the short paper need to be combined into one document and this needs to be submitted as a PDF.

3. Support Materials

Please make supporting materials relevant to the project (images, sounds, videos, links to websites, etc.) available via a URL. The URL needs to be clearly indicated in the project information sheet (see point 1) and accessible until the end of SEPTEMBER 2010.

artTitle	Space of two categories
abstractField	Space of two categories connects wievers emotionally with their own childhood. Each person entering the installation space creates a human-shaped view to the world of a little girl with their own shadows. The shadows act as gateways to another temporal state, which is illuminated inside shadows, normally dark and void. The installation deals with the relationship of childhood and adulthood as different states of human body; how our childhood exists inside our aging and transforming body and how those memories are stored into our bodies.

abstractField	Wearable Forest is a clothing design that bio-acoustically interacts with distant wildlife in a remote forest through a remote-controlled speaker and microphone using a network. It expresses the bioacoustical beauty of nature in its unique aesthetic appeal for users and allows the users interact with a forest in real time through a network to acoustically experience a distant forest soundscape, thus merging man and nature without environmental destruction. This novel interactive sound system can create a sense of unity between users and a remote soundscape, enabling users to feel a sense of belonging to nature even in the midst of a city.

abstractField	The paper presents Non_sensor, a digital art project that makes use of a Polhemus motion tracking system to create a electromagnetic field which is disturbed by metallic objects that are manipulated by the visitors in the installation. This disturbance is interpreted by the system as movement, and presented in the interface as lines that create trajectories according to the distortions. Visitors can therefore design different graphic patterns in the interface by playing with objects.

abstractField	Gardening once was the one of art form nurtured by Zen principles. It emphasized the intentional blurring of the distinctions between natural and man-made materials. The idea is adopted into an installation project "GORI.Node Garden" in order to explore an author's alternative view of network and an idea of "Node Gardening". GORI.Node Garden has been developed as a series of network data visualization. While the earlier version of GORI.Node Garden was about nurturing a private network garden by using mobile communication data, "Gardening Two" is an open network garden where anyone on the Internet is able to participate in growing GORIs by instant messaging. This paper is a description of the second one.

The system in progress is a RF-ID (radio-frequency identification) technology for dance performance, which improvises, live visuals on stage. The performance is a reconstructed architecture of space that encodes the spatial aesthetics of the interaction between human, theatrical and cinematic space.

abstractField	nite_aura has been developed as both an artistic work and an instrument for research into immersive environments. nite_aura is an audio-visual, interactive installation exploring physical motion within an alternative immersive environment. The enchantment of the night's sky has inspires flights of imagination and whispered wishes in humans of all ages. 'nite_aura' embodies these memories and experiences allowing for visitors to whisper to the air and play with fields of stars surrounding them in an interactive immersive art installation focusing on sensual and physical interaction. The work investigates the effect of the texture of space, light and sound in providing a comforting, relaxing, and meditative quality of immersion.
